The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat – in a statement today, Tuesday, expressed his grave concern about the development of the political and security situation in the Central African Republic, warning all political actors in the Central African Republic that elections remain the only legitimate means to gain power, calling for Work to hold elections in accordance with the Constitution and standards of the Central African Republic, and in line with the international, continental and regional principles that govern democratic elections in Africa.
The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called on stakeholders and all citizens in Central Africa to calm and restraint, and to work for the full implementation of peace agreements and finding consensual solutions aimed at preserving peace, stability and social cohesion.
He stressed the solidarity of the African Union and its support for the people of Central Africa, reiterating the union’s continued commitment to work alongside the Economic Community of Central African States and the regional mechanisms to support the holding of a credible, transparent and democratic democratic conference.
