The British Embassy in Cairo revealed that the United Kingdom helped raise one billion dollars for the “Kovacs” initiative to combat the Coronavirus, in addition to the previous British pledge to allocate 548 million pounds of British funding pledged to distribute one billion doses of Coronavirus vaccines to 92 developing countries this year.
The embassy stated in a statement that this vital investment will help stop the spread of the disease and prevent future waves, which will help to rebuild better from the Corona virus worldwide, noting that the United Kingdom is using the aid budget, scientific expertise and diplomatic effectiveness to promote global health in countries around the world. In Egypt, for example, the United Kingdom recently allocated a million pounds sterling through the World Health Organization to support the government in rapid response and surveillance, infection control and prevention of the emerging coronavirus.
The announcement of the billion-dollar fund coincides with the hypothetical visit of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, to London, as part of the UK’s celebration of the 75th anniversary of the United Nations. In addition to his meeting with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, and British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab.
