From January to November, Mexican exports of agri-food goods expanded 13.2% to 40,289 million dollars, thus spinning uninterrupted growth since 2010, according to data from Mexico’s trade balance updated by the National Institute of Geography and Statistics ( Inegi).
Four of the five products most exported by Mexico during the period had increases in export value well above the average. Beer, the leader of the list, showed a year-over-year increase of 18.5% to 5,081 million dollars.
Tequila and mezcal followed, with an advance of 34.4% to 2,976 million dollars; avocado, with a jump of 11.6% to 2,791 million and beef, which grew 32.8% to 1,836 million dollars. In this group, only the tomato exhibited a decline, which was 3.8% to 2,275 million dollars.
On the other hand, agri-food imports had an increase of 38.8%, as a result of a lower base of comparison (last year they contracted 7%, while exports did not stop growing) and a reflection of a reactivation of internal consumption, after the economic contraction due to Covid-19.
Despite the above, the balance of the agri-food trade balance remains in positive territory for the seventh consecutive year, with a surplus of 6,333 million dollars, 43.1% lower than in 2020.
