Today, Monday, Australia confirmed two cases of a new strain of Coronavirus, in the first confirmation of cases of the fast-spreading strain in the Asia-Pacific region.
The new strain had forced Britain to backtrack on plans to ease Corona restrictions during the Christmas period.
On Sunday, Australia’s most populous state stated that it had detected six new cases of coronavirus, among people returning from abroad and in quarantine, and the authorities said that among them were two cases of the new syphilis.
But New South Wales state officials stressed that they do not believe that those infected with the new strain had mixed with society.
“We have two travelers who returned from Britain with this mutated virus,” state health official Kerry Chant told reporters.
Australia indicated that it was not considering suspending flights with Britain.
“All those coming from Britain will be subject to a 14-day quarantine in a hotel, and they do not pose a danger because the quarantine works successfully,” Paul Kelly, chief medical officer, told reporters.
Australia has recorded about 28,200 cases of coronavirus and 908 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
