Cancun, QR. Given the start of major road infrastructure works at the main highway entrance to the city of cancunbusiness chambers call on the federal government to implement road alternatives that avoid vehicular chaos like the one that was avoided with the change in the layout of the Mayan Train.

These works are the modernization of the road junction to the Cancun International Airport and the rehabilitation of the 13.36 kilometers of Bulevar Luis Donaldo Colosio, where thousands of vehicles travel daily through the tourist corridor. Cancun-Riviera Maya.

Complementary works will also be built that seek to speed up the entry and exit of vehicles from the city. For all this, the federal government will apply resources of the order of 1,328 million pesos during the years 2022 and 2023.

In addition, the Nichupté lagoon bridge is about to start, with a public investment of 5,500 million pesos that was recently assigned to the ICA consortium through international bidding. Said project will connect Colosio Boulevard at some point with the Cancun hotel zone.

Miguel Ángel Lemus, local president of the Mexican Association of Real Estate Professionals (WIDE), said that the works are very positive, but considered it necessary that they be socialized so that the population knows the road alternatives that should be implemented so as not to affect the economic dynamics of the city, which depends on the flow of tourists that enter and depart from the airport cancun and that necessarily circulate through the arteries that will be affected by the works.

To this end, he announced the holding of a forum to which they are calling the holders of the National Fund for the Promotion of Tourism (Fonatur), Secretariat of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development and the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) so that they expose the plans and alternatives for vehicular circulation that will be needed while the works are in process. The forum will be held on August 24, 25 and 26 at the Cancun Convention Center.

For his part, manager of the Mexican Association of Travel Agencies (AMAV), Sergio Gonzáles Rubiera, announced that they are waiting for the state and federal authorities to inform them about the logistics or mobility options that they will have once the works begin.

“The first thing is that we should know a little about what the conditions of the work are, the layout, what the alternatives are, and we do not have any information, so we would like the government to inform us when they start, what complications they will have and what are the schedules to be able to put together logistics, until today I do not have any information, “he said.

Turismo

For his part, Jesús Almaguer Salazar, president of the Cancun Hotel AssociationPuerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres, considered it positive that the bridge over the Nichupté lagoon will finally be built, but regretted that the works will begin on July 1, since the high summer season also begins and there could be complications for the large volume of tourists expected.

“That’s where the issue fails us a bit. They should have done the works in the low season, which is when we have fewer tourists,” she said.

Previously, the SICT issued a statement in which it ensures that only with the remodeling of the entrance road to Cancun will there be a safer operation for users by having greater road capacity, with eight traffic lanes, benefiting an estimated population of 1.3 million inhabitants of the municipalities of Benito Juárez, Puerto Morelos, Isla Mujeres, Solidaridad and Lázaro Cárdenas, in addition to generating 356 direct jobs and 1,423 indirect jobs.
