The National Health Commission in China said today, Monday, that the Chinese mainland has witnessed the largest daily increase in Corona virus infections in more than five months, as infections continue to increase in the Hebei Province surrounding the capital, Beijing.
The commission added in a statement that Hebei Province recorded 82 injuries out of 85 local injuries yesterday, and that Liaoning Province recorded two injuries, while Beijing recorded one case. The country also recorded 18 new infections for arrivals from abroad.
The total number of daily injuries reached 103, the highest since July 30, when the country recorded 127 injuries.
Although new infections in recent days are still much lower than what the country witnessed at the height of the pandemic outbreak in early 2020, the authorities are moving aggressively to limit the spread of the disease in order to prevent another wave of infection.
The authorities closed Shijiazhuang, the capital of Hebei, the new epicenter of the outbreak, and authorities prevented people and cars from leaving the city. Public transportation has also stopped in the city.
The commission said it also recorded 76 new infections without symptoms, up from 27 the previous day. China does not consider such infections to be confirmed cases.
The total confirmed infections on the Chinese mainland were 87,536, while the total deaths remained unchanged at 4,634.
