Given the multiple changes that the Mexican labor market has undergone in recent years, companies have begun to rethink their practices and strategies for attracting and hiring the best talent, an example of this is focusing less on proven experience and more on the ability of your skills.
This was stated by Mayerlline Nájera, director of Human Resources, Marketing and Communication of Randstad Mexico and Communication of the Mexican Association of Human Capital Companies (AMECH), after pointing out that according to the studies that have been carried out by 40% of the leaders of human capital in Mexico says that the shortage of talent is the most important critical point in its human resources strategy.
In second place are concerns about the voluntary departure of talent from their companies (30%) and in third place their HR technology strategy, AI, automation and/or robotics with 14%.
Mayerlline Nájera referred that the shortage of talent is a phenomenon that occurs when there are not enough workers available to participate in the labor market, in order to satisfy the current demand of employers. “While the impact of this situation may vary by location and industry, it is without a doubt one of the greatest challenges in modern history,” she added.
An important factor influencing the current talent shortage is the aging of the world’s population. For years, employers have been concerned with replacing a record number of retiring workers. According to data from the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), at the end of November 2021, the total number of pensioners and retirees exceeded 4.59 million.
Finally, although it is not a new challenge for organizations, but it has intensified since the arrival of the pandemic, there is technological adaptation, this phenomenon has had a significant impact on employment, causing a deficit of technological talent for companies.
“The shortage of talent will become a problem that will last over time. This phenomenon, in addition to hindering the growth of companies, can also affect the growth of society in general, therefore, it must be a primary issue within the agendas of Human Resources departments”, concluded Mayerlline Nájera.
