Laura Szkudlarek appeared on ‘Kmart Live’ to show people the best way to wrap a gift to make it look like it was done by a professional.
‘There is no right or wrong way but this way is better than most,’ she said during the demonstration.
Her top tips include buying wrapping paper with a grid on the back to get a straight cut and using double sided tape to make a seamless finish.

It is good to buy the paper with the grid on the back – as it makes it easier to cut straight
She strongly advises against taping the wrapping paper to the box and ‘hacking away’ at paper to make it the right size.
Laura starts with teaching people how to wrap a box and warns against excess paper.
She say the paper should cover the top of the box but not go any further around.
The paper at the end of the parcel should be cut so it covers the box completely but does not go over the side.
She pushes the gift to the end of the wrapping paper when she is measuring the size to avoid having to cut more than once.
Then once she has her paper cut to the perfect size she gets to sticking it down.
‘Use double sided tape… it is a game changer,’ she said.
Measuring is important – there should not be any overlapping of any kind
Bows that come undone with one pull are also important, according to Laura
She pulls the paper tight and folds the end to make sure nothing hangs over before sticking the paper together at the end of the parcel.
‘Don’t stick the paper to the box,’ she said.
To get the professional creases she suggest pressing down hard with your finger nail.
This can be doe on each crease once the present is wrapped, before putting on the bow.
The trick to a successful bow is to make sure it is easy to remove ‘with one hand’.
‘There is no right or wrong way but this way is better than most,’ she said
She shows the best way to tie the bow, starting with along piece of ribbon three-quarters of the way up the gift.
Gift tags should be threaded into the ribbon prior to tying.
The bow is to be tied onto the top side of the gift and should be similar to a shoelace tie which can be undone with one pull of the loose end.
The gifts in the video looked very professional and the step-by-step instructions are easy to follow and can help even the least talented gift wrappers get through Christmas.
