What really happened on the afternoon of July 31, 2015 in the Narvarte neighborhood? More than seven years have passed since a group of subjects entered an apartment in the 1909 Luz Saviñón building and perpetrated the sadistic femicide of Nadia Vera, Yesenia Quiroz, Alejandra Negrete and Mile Martin and the murder of photojournalist Rubén Espinosa.
More than seven years have passed and their families have not ceased their claim for truth and justice in a case that, unfortunately, like many in this country, has been clouded by the authorities themselves, both those of that time and those in force. that they have left so many loose ends, so many indications of a much more murky background, that forces the families of the victims to show that after that despicable crime another of equal or worse brutality was committed, a State crime.
This Thursday, the Netflix platform premiered the documentary “A plena luz”, the second work by director Alberto Arnaut, which gathers sufficient evidence to revive the investigation into this multi-homicide, because it sheds light on new investigations from civil society that question the reasons, for not to say simulations, which the Prosecutor’s Office then considered sufficient to make this a closed case.
There was evidence that was hidden
Broadly speaking, relatives of the victims and their lawyers participate in the film work, as well as a computer expert. Together they share and cross-reference the conclusions of their investigations and find new evidence that suggests the active participation of at least two people in addition to the three who were arrested at the time, in addition to the background of a powerful human trafficking network and ties to high-ranking officials. in the governments of Veracruz, then governed by Javier Duarte, and of the Mexican capital, under the leadership of Mancera.
This citizen investigation group also demonstrates that this evidence was in the hands of the capital’s Prosecutor’s Office and that it hid or omitted fundamental parts of the investigation to cover up the mastermind(s).
Likewise, the film material offers an approach to the profiles of the victims, because it considers it necessary to rehumanize the four murdered women and the photojournalist, whose public image was bogged down by the official versions, so that the version of a crime could be built by a supposed drug dispute, that public opinion thought that they were people in bad steps so that they immediately turned the page.
Does this way of operating our justice authorities sound familiar to you?
It’s not a closed case
Alberto Arnaut is also the director of the documentary “Hasta los dientes” (2018), a work that transcended its status as a film work to become an investigation with irrefutable evidence on the 2010 murder of two young students from the Tecnológico de Monterrey, in the capital. from Neo-Leon, at the hands of the Mexican Army under the pretext –which was totally challenged by the results of this documentary– that they were two hit men “armed to the teeth”, another simulation to justify the state of impunity, ineffectiveness, incompetence and perversity of the political and justice system in our country, another case of so many that embarrass us.
In an interview, Arnaut shares that the objectives of “In Full Light” changed as the investigation progressed. “At first we were a bit arrogant, thinking that we were going to get to the truth because we came from the experience of ‘Hasta los dientes’. And in this case we realized very soon that we were not going to achieve it and then the objective changed: we had to explain to people why we could not get to the truth. And the answer lies in the Prosecutor’s Office and in the authorities that, not only do they not advance due to incompetence or budget limitations, but there is participation, cover-up and complicity, that there has been an impunity pact with the criminal groups, at least during the Mancera’s government, and that today there must still be people from those groups entrenched in the prosecutor’s office.
The director shares that within this series of interviews, which includes the voices of Mancera and Duarte, he would have liked to have the testimony of the three perpetrators, former police officer Abraham Torres Tranquilino, Daniel Pacheco Martínez and César Omar Martínez Zendejas, but these they refused to participate in the film at the last minute. These are key voices that can point out who the orders came from and what the objectives were, voices that have chosen to remain silent.
“Other of the main obstacles to the film came from the Prosecutor’s Office, which was releasing information to us little by little. He never had an opening to be able to publicize the file in its entirety. We even have other videos that we were able to have until we had already finished the movie and we are afraid to review. The documentary is not a closed case, in it we are saying that there are many possibilities of what could have happened in Narvarte, we must investigate all of them until we can get to the truth”.
