The pilots of Red Bull they have in the Italian Grand Prix the great responsibility of leaving the continent with more clarity for the dream of the team: to have wide points of distance with respect to the rivals, being leaders of the Constructors’ Championship and leading (1-2) the standing of Drivers. Neither Max Verstappen nor Sergio “Checo” Pérez have been on the podium at the circuit Monza National Circuitdriving for the Austrian team.
“I like to be on the podium everywhere, but this track has never been good for us; we just never had that top speed and of course on some tracks you can compensate with a lower wing but here everyone tests low downforce so you just stick with it. And that’s why in the last couple of years we’ve never really been competitive here. Also, this was a track where we always had to take engine penalties and stuff, which doesn’t really help to get on the podium either. This year we have a good opportunity and if you look at our car throughout the season, we have always been good on the straights,” said championship leader Verstappen.
Monza is nicknamed the “Temple of Speed” for a reason. Drivers will be at full throttle for more than 80% of the lap, thanks to the track’s simple layout dating back to the 1920s. It’s the oldest circuit in mainland Europe, and hasn’t seen much in the way of renovations or alterations .
With the victory in ItaliaVerstappen could stretch his winning streak to five in a row. The Red Bull driver believes his RB18 could be competitive on all kinds of circuits, from Austin to Zandvoort.
“At the start of the year, with the car quite overweight, I think it didn’t help the balance of the car, but with that dropping, the last couple of races in particular have been really good for us. We seem to now understand how to act on each track, some a little bit more than others, in terms of points it’s been really good, but we know there are still a lot of races left where we need to score points as well.”
Max Verstappen extended his advantage over Charles Leclerc for Ferrari at the Dutch GP, continuing his impeccable form with his tenth victory in 15 races this season. Verstappen’s victory at Zandvoort catapulted him 109 points ahead of Leclerc in second place, and it’s clear that he is a driver who is full of confidence, not only in himself but also in his car. Lewis Hamilton will start the Italian Grand Prix from the back of the grid due to a forced engine change. Hamilton and Michael Schumacher are the most successful drivers at Monza with five wins each.
In the 2021 race, the first victory of McLaren in nine years when Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris got 1-2.
