The Federation’s Expenditure Budget Project for fiscal year 2023 (PPEF 2023), delivered this Thursday afternoon to the Chamber of Deputies by the Secretary of the Treasury, Rogelio Ramírez de la O, earmarks for Branch 48, Culture, an amount of just over 15 thousand 925 million, which means an increase of 896.5 million current pesos, compared to the budget for culture in 2022, although, considering the inflationary factor, the increase in real terms would be barely 0.9 percent.
For the third consecutive year, the Chapultepec Forest Cultural Complex project receives the largest share of the industry budget. In this case, the priority project has an allocation of 3 thousand 670 million pesos, that is, 23% of the total money allocated to culture for 2023. With this amount, from its first allocation in the PEF 2020 and until 2023 , Chapultepec would have already been assigned just over 12 million 669 thousand pesos.
In a general breakdown, for the central sector of the Ministry of Culture, the fiscal package proposes 6 thousand 652.6 million pesos, which shows a real decrease of 6%, although this is due to the small reduction that this year has the budget for the forest , which is included in the money for the Undersecretary of Cultural Development and from it the majority is transferred to the Government of Mexico City for the execution of the works in Chapultepec.
The great beneficiary within the central sector was the Subdirectorate for Cultural Diversity and Promotion of Reading, which has remained headless since the resignation of the poet Natalia Toledo in January 2021, but anticipates an allocation of just over 602 million, after having received a significant cut (from 438 million pesos in 2021 to 112 million pesos for the current year).
In the PPEF 2023, the increases for the Mexican Institute of Cinematography (Imcine) stand out, which will have 293.4 million pesos and in real terms will grow its allocation by 38.8% compared to the PEF 2022, and the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), with 3 1,460.8 million, a real increase of 12.5 percent.
The rest of the dependencies of the branch received nominal growth of one digit that with the adjustment for inflation, their allocation remains similar to the PEF 2022.
