(CNN) –– Johnny Depp may not be returning to the “Pirates of the Caribbean” saga anytime soon, but he hasn’t forgotten his character as Jack Sparrow.
The actor thrilled some fans last week outside the courthouse in Virginia, where his ex-wife Amber Heard is being sued for libel, by interacting with them from the van he was riding in.
When a fan yelled “you will always be our Captain Jack Sparrow,” Depp responded in the character’s voice in an exchange that has gone viral on social media.
He’s still out there somewhere,” Depp said in Jack Sparrow’s voice. “I see him from time to time. He shows up from time to time,” he added.
Depp accused Heard of defaming him in an op-ed she wrote for The Washington Post in 2018 and in which she described herself as a “public figure representing domestic abuse”. Although Depp’s name did not appear in the text, the actor claims that she affected her reputation and caused him to lose his job.
Heard has filed a counterclaim for $100 million.
“Pirates of the Caribbean” producer Jerry Bruckheimer spoke in a recent interview about whether Depp would return to the franchise.
“Not right now,” Bruckheimer said. “The future is yet to be decided.”
Depp may take the stand again this week as the trial enters its final stages.
