The judge of the Supreme Court of BrazilLuis Roberto Barroso ruled on Saturday that the Government must require proof of vaccination for visitors seeking to enter the country.
The Brazilian president, Jair Bolsonaro, has repeatedly denied requests from state health regulator Anvisa to require proof of vaccination from visitors.
But Barroso said in his decision that Brazil he should avoid supporting what he called “anti-vaccine tourism.”
The judge said that the requirement of proof of vaccination it can be waived only when the traveler comes from a country where vaccines are not available or if the person could not be immunized for health reasons.
The Brazilian government has delayed for a week a regulation that would require unvaccinated visitors to be quarantined for five days, following a hacker attack on the Health Ministry on Friday.
