(CNN) — American actor Kevin Spacey has been formally charged with four counts of sexual abuse against three men, according to the London Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom.
In a statement released Monday, police say the award-winning actor was also charged with “causing a person to engage in nonconsensual penetrative sexual activity.”
Space is expected to appear in court in Westminster on Thursday.
The alleged victim of the 2005 incidents is now in his 40s, while the two men allegedly involved in the 2008 and 2013 incidents are in their 30s, the London Metropolitan Police said.
The charges follow a Crown Prosecution Service review of evidence collected by police during their investigation of the allegations.
The Crown Prosecution Service cleared charges against the actor last month, but could not formally pursue them until the actor was on UK soil.
Following the clearance of the indictment, Spacey said he planned to travel to the UK to deny the allegations, according to a statement sent to Good Morning America and reported by UK news agency PA Media.
“While I am disappointed in your decision to pursue charges, I will voluntarily appear in the UK as soon as possible and defend myself against these charges, to which I am confident I will be found not guilty,” the statement said.
Spacey won two Oscars for his roles in “The Usual Suspects” and “American Beauty,” and was artistic director of London’s Old Vic theater from 2003 to 2015.
He also starred in the famous Netflix political series “House of Cards” and returned to acting last year.
