The commander of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization “NATO” in Iraq, General Pierre Oles, said that “his forces will continue to provide advice and training to the Iraqi army, and will not take the role of the American forces.”
Olsen added, in an interview with the Iraqi “Asia” channel: “The number of the NATO mission in Iraq is more than 300 people, and our mission is non-combat, so we did not provide advice on targeting or detecting ISIS cells.”
He explained that “the Iraqi National Security Adviser, Qassem Al-Araji, submitted a formal request to increase the number of NATO forces in Iraq.”
Olsen added that “NATO will not take the American role in Iraq, and in the coming months our meetings will determine the institutions to which we will provide training and advice.”
