DUX Gaming has managed to get the first Spanish (and European) team in NBA history when launching an expansion team of the NBA 2K League that will be based in Mexico. The DUX Gaming team will join the NBA 2K League next season during the spring of 2022.
Expanding the league’s global presence after the addition of the Gen. G Tigers from Shanghai in 2020, DUX Gaming will become the 24th NBA 2K League team and second expansion team from outside the US and Canada. Rafael “RafaelTGR” Tobias Garcera Rodrigo, a former NBA 2K League and 2019 European Invitational NBA 2K League participant, serving as general manager of DUX Gaming.
“This is a historic day as we welcome another world-class international organization to the NBA 2K League family,” said NBA 2K League President. Brendan Donohuand. “DUX Gaming has a proven track record of growing its fan base in new and creative ways, making them an ideal partnership, supporting the NBA 2K League to successfully expand to Latin America.”
Dux Gaming to be the twenty-fourth team of the best league in the world after participating in the third expansion draft of the league on November 17 to enter a league in which a Spanish player already entered last season, ‘AveMario‘, in the ranks of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
DUX Gaming, a sports organization based in Madrid and founded in 2018 by Jordi Torras and Xavier Robles, compete in international esports tournaments and Spanish soccer leagues. DUX Gaming is a two-time eLaLiga champion and plays on the NBA 2K amateur circuit. In 2020, DUX Gaming became the first esports organization to buy a semi-professional football club with the purchase of DUX Internacional de Madrid, which was named “the club of the future” by the BBC and compete in 1RFEF, the third level of the Spanish soccer system. This year, DUX Gaming founded DUX Logroo, which competes in the second division of Spanish women’s soccer. The sports content creator DjMaRiiO is the honorary president and ambassador of the club, and in 2020, the LaLiga players Thibaut Courtois and Borja Iglesias placeholder image joined DUX Gaming as investors.
