The search and rescue team in Indonesia found the wreckage of the ill-fated plane, which fell in the Java Sea, with 62 passengers, including 10 children, on board. The authorities also located the two black boxes of the Sriwijaya plane, in addition to recovering human remains and parts of the plane.
The Boeing 737-500, which was en route to Pontianak, the capital of West Kalimantan Province, on Saturday with 62 passengers and crew on board, disappeared from radar screens four minutes after takeoff.
The head of Indonesia’s National Transportation Safety Commission, Soirganto Takhjono, said the two black boxes of Flight SG182 had been located.
“We hope that we will be able to pull them out soon,” said Army Chief Hadi Tjjanto, without specifying a time frame.
A search and rescue official said the search would continue at night, but that efforts would be limited to an ultrasound scan by the boats.
