A month after his arrest, family and friends demanded freedom to Jose Manuel del Rio Virgin, the technical secretary of the Political Coordination Board (Jucopo) of the Senate, who they say is a political prisoner in Veracruz.
They congregated in the main cities and places of the country, such as the Zócalo in Mexico City; Chetumal, Quintana Roo; Xalapa and Papantla, Veracruz; Tuxtepec, Oaxaca; Acapulco Guerrero; Tepoztlán, Morelos, and Tijuana, where they claimed Del Río’s innocence.
They specified that this January 22, it was a month since Del Río Virgen was deprived of his liberty and separated from his family, “accused without evidence” of the murder of René Tovar, candidate for mayor of Cazones Herrera.
For this reason, they demanded a fair process, with unrestricted adherence to the law, both for José Manuel and for all those people who have been unjustly deprived of their liberty.
They expressed confidence that the federal justice would release the Senate official, since a judge granted the provisional suspension in the amparo presented by his defense, which among his family and friends was received as good news.
They also recognized the support that from the Senate has been given to José Manuel del Río, through the Jucopo who presides over the senator Ricardo Monreal and with the integration of the Special Commission chaired by Dante Delgado and that has been documenting around 50 cases of abuses of authority and human rights violations in Veracruz.
In addition to the citizen marches that have been held in different cities to demand their freedom, the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) on December 27 notified that it attracted the arrest case of José Manuel del Río Virgen to document acts or omissions committed by public servants of the State Attorney General’s Office.
The Special Commission has reaffirmed that José Manuel del Río Virgen is the victim of injustice and political revenge, since his incarceration is not an isolated event in cases of abuse of authority under the Cuitláhuac administration, since he was linked to process without evidence that incriminates him.
Del Río Virgen was arrested when he and his family were on their way to spend Christmas Eve in their entity, after months of struggle by Senator Ricardo Monreal, of whom he is a collaborator, against the abuses of power and human rights violations committed in Veracruz through the application of the crime of outrages against authority against critics of the government.
In this context, Del Río Virgen’s family and friends maintain that he is innocent and, therefore, a political prisoner who has been suffering human rights violations for a month.
They thanked for the support they have received in these weeks of fighting for Del Río’s freedom, and also to the people who have had the opportunity to meet him and know firsthand that he is a person of integrity, with probity and prestige, not only as a servant. public but as academic.
