Guadalajara, Jalisco. Since the creation, 28 years ago, of a regulatory body that monitors compliance with the Official Mexican Standard that governs it, tequila –the first Mexican Denomination of Origin– has had an average annual growth of 19.4 percent.
Between 1994 – the year in which the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT) was formed – and the present 2022, the conformity assessment body has registered the production of 6,509. 6 million liters of distillate and the export of 2,666 million liters.

After achieving the consolidation of the agave-tequila agro-industrial chain, on which nearly 100,000 families currently depend, the sector has reached levels of production and exports that have broken historical records even in the years of the pandemic.

Although the DOT includes five states of the Republic (Jalisco, Guanajuato, Michoacán, Nayarit and Tamaulipas), 74.1% of the Blue Tequilana Weber agave –the only agave variety allowed by the NOM to produce tequila– is planted in the state of Jalisco.
