The NBA continues to make changes to its regulations in order to make games more dynamic. This Wednesday, the league’s Board of Governors approved one of them, which affects the reviews of throw-ins. Until now, these could only be done in the last two minutes of the game or extra time, and this review can be requested by both the referees and the coaches through the coach challenge, but from now on the referees will no longer have this capacity.
Therefore, only the use of the coach challenge to claim an alleged bad referee signaling will allow the referees to use the replay to determine which team should serve. However, this possibility will now be extended to the entire match, not only to the last two minutes, as is the case with the rest of the actions in which coaches can request the review.
As is customary with these types of changes, the standard will be approved for one year and will be reviewed when the next season ends, determining if its implementation has been positive or not. It will then have to be seen if the objective of ensuring that the end of the game is not interrupted so much or if, on the contrary, certain controversies in tight matches make it back down.
