The Transportation Security Administration The United States (TSA) said it screened 2.56 million air passengers this Sunday, November 27, the highest number since December 2019 and the busiest day since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The figure was, however, less than the 2.88 million travelers checked on the same day in 2019, at the end of the busy period of travel from Thanksgiving in United States.
US airlines reported very few cancellations during the holiday travel period, including 177 on Sunday and 36 on Monday.
The United States Secretary of Transportation, Pete Buttigiegsaid on Twitter on Saturday that on Friday there were cancellation and delay rates of 0.4% and 0.3%, respectively.
US airlines had planned to operate 13% fewer domestic flights during the eight days of Thanksgiving travel compared with 2019, according to Cirium data, but often with larger planes.
The airlines and Buttigieg clashed for months over the problems in the summer that caused tens of thousands of flight disruptions and prompted the department to pressure airlines to improve passenger service.
