A few days ago the GEA-ISA survey for the month of November was presented and the data shows, on the one hand, a country that is doing badly and, on the other, a majority opinion of the people who feel that it is better.
When we analyze the country at a macro level, there is no way to defend the government, all the data is negative.
The economy is stagnant and if we do well, it will be until the end of 2022 when we recover the level we had in 2018. Employment has recovered, but unemployment and underemployment are the highest in recent years and despite the increase in At a minimum, the average salary has fallen and the number of families that cannot buy the basic food basket has increased. Poverty grew and people faced a situation of anguish due to the lack of sufficient income.
76% of the people still think that corruption remains the same and 74% that public officials are more or just as corrupt than the previous ones.
We are among the countries that have handled the pandemic the worst and among the four that have had the most deaths, however, 57% approve of the actions taken by the government to combat it and 61% believe that the country’s health authorities have the pandemic under control.
In terms of security there are no results and after three years the number of homicides has not been reduced more than marginally. Most Mexicans think that the country is going the wrong way and 47% disapprove of the actions taken to combat organized crime, however, 69% agree that public security is in the hands of the armed forces.
Regarding the economic situation of the country and their families, the perception of the people has been improving, even in politics a better situation is perceived, 54% are satisfied with how democracy works in Mexico and 58% believe that democracy is preferable to another form of government. This data is very important since a year ago only 36% thought this way.
The positive opinion about the INE increased by 24 points in just three months and 71% of the people think that it will guarantee impartiality in the federal elections. The opinion on the parties is still bad and except for Morena, the others are in negative figures in their acceptance.
President López Obrador’s rating remains very high with 54% acceptance and 40% rejection according to the survey. People continue to support him because they consider that he has good intentions (33%), they identify with him (12%) or because he has had good results (18%) and only 18% because of his social programs. Its credibility remains at 70% even though it has dropped from a lot to just (27%) and a little (43%).
Although we are worse, we are doing better compared to last year and we will do better in the next three years. The six-year term is lost, but people continue to believe in the president and if things continue as they are, López Obrador and Morena will arrive very strong for the 2024 elections.
