‘This money belongs to the people of NSW and I want to make sure it goes back to them.’
The department holds more than a million unclaimed items such as share dividends, trust accounts and deceased estates that can’t be returned to the owner because their contact details cannot be tracked down.
Mr Tudehope said it only takes a few minutes to check the Revenue NSW website to see if you have available funds in time for the festive season.
‘It only takes a few minutes and you could walk away with some extra Christmas money in your pocket to spend on loved ones’, he said.
Greater Sydney makes up the majority of unclaimed money with over $133 million and the inner city with $70 million awaiting colleciton.
More than $34 million sits in Northern Sydney, around $13 million in Southern and Western Sydney and over $16 million is up for grabs in the region of Western Sydney.

With the Christmas season fast approaching, Mr Tudehope says that these funds could help families who had to tighten their budgets when COVID-19 hit the state.
‘Christmas is a time of year where all families could do with a little extra’.
‘COVID-19 has also seen many families tighten their budgets. A quick search could help identify money that is sitting, waiting to be claimed through Revenue NSW, that could be used these Summer holidays’, he said.
Since December last year, the department has paid almost $17 million to NSW residents.
