The Australian authorities have intensified tests to detect the Corona virus with the aim of reducing the infection that has begun to reappear in Sydney, and other states and territories have taken similar steps amid fears of an outbreak of the epidemic.
On Thursday, officials said, nearly 70,000 tests were carried out across New South Wales, which is home to about a quarter of Australia’s population of 25 million.
The state recorded 7 new cases of corona today, Friday, including 6 cases associated with the spread of the disease in the northern coastal suburbs of Sydney, which imposed a state of isolation on more than a quarter of a million people for about a week.
The neighboring state of Victoria conducted more than 11,000 tests on Thursday, and the state had not recorded any infection with the Corona virus for eight consecutive weeks after it had been fighting for several months a major wave of outbreaks.
Sydney has become effectively cut off from the rest of the country, with state borders closed or those coming from the city subject to a mandatory 14-day quarantine.
The virus outbreak has been largely contained in the affected suburbs and only a few cases have been recorded across Australia in the last week.
Australia has recorded more than 28,000 cases of corona and 908 deaths so far, thanks to several reasons, including widespread tests that are done for free in public health facilities.
