Fake German heiress Anna Sorokin has called her time behind bars ‘pointless’, said regret ‘is a useless feeling’ and revealed plans for a TV show and tell all memoir in her first interview since leaving prison.
Sorokin – who went by the name Anna Delvey while duping people out of $275,000 before her 2017 arrest – told Insider being held at Rikers Island and at Albion Correctional Facility ‘kind of like the scene in New York, but amplified’. She said: ‘It’s all about who you know and what people think of you.’
In 2019, Anna was sentenced to a minimum of four years behind bars for duping friends, banks and hotels by posing as a European heiress to steal their money. She was given time served for the 18 months she spent in Rikers Island before her trial, then was freed early due to COVID-19 and good behavior.
The 29-year-old, who was released from Albion prison on February 11 and spent her first weekend of freedom living it up in Manhattan hotel and shopping at Sephora – said she was ‘upset’ at being locked up.
But she added: ‘But it’s just not so bad as to act as a deterrent for any future crimes, you know? You’re just there.’
Anna said the guards there ‘absolutely’ knew who she was, adding: ‘A lot of them were just very inappropriate, very unprofessional. Like, “Oh my gosh, I love your story. I’m following you on Instagram.”‘
Sorokin, who was released from prison eight months early, also called her time in prison ‘a huge waste of time’.
‘What I did have the time to reflect on was the criminal justice system — how pointless it is,’ she told Insider.
Immediately after leaving prison, Sorokin set up new social media accounts and reconvened with friends in Manhattan. She was pictured shopping in a pricey Canada Goose jacket, which can cost up to $1,500, and brand new Nike sneakers over the weekend.

Since leaving prison Sorokin has stayed at The Nomad Hotel – where rooms are $260-a-night – and shared photos of wine and caviar in her suite. She was followed around by a German TV camera crew and reporter, and also posted on her own social media accounts about what she was doing.
She told Insider of crimes: ‘I think regret is just a useless feeling because I clearly cannot go back in time and change anything. I did what I did. I’m just trying to fix things and move on. They [prosecutors] presented me as being this thirsty and greedy. I just had this vision. And it didn’t work out.
‘I don’t really have a problem with myself as a person, because I know I was never planning on defrauding anyone.’
Sorokin duped friends, hotels and even banks into giving her money between 2016 and 2017.
She pretended to be the daughter of a mysterious oil baron in Europe and lived an exorbitantly expensive lifestyle in Manhattan without ever actually paying for it.
It came crashing down in 2017 after she took a friend, a Vanity Fair photo editor, to Marrakesh with her, racked up thousands in charges at hotels and then gave the photo editor the $62,000 bill, promising to pay her back.

Confirming she is writing a book Sorokin told Insider: ‘It’s going to be my take on the criminal justice system and my jail experience. My point is basically going to be like the pointlessness of the whole thing.
‘They just wasted everyone’s time and money.’
After cameras were seen following her around Manhattan over the weekend Sorokin said of ‘Anna Delvey TV’: ‘I’m just kind of filming everything I’m doing right now and I’m going to see what to do with it later.’
Explaining why she would still be using her fake name of Delvey, Sorokin added: ‘Why shouldn’t I? I’m a movement by myself.’
Sorokin had also asked fans on social media to tune in to a ‘live’ video where she promised a no-holds-barred Q&A but then disappointed them by only filming herself in the bathtub and not answering any questions.
