A former teacher at one of Australia’s most exclusive private schools has been jailed over naked images of underage girls.
Andrew Robert Grant, 59, paid $470 for more than 100 child abuse images and 21 videos, solicited from girls in the Philippines while he was living overseas.
Grant, who worked at Melbourne‘s prestigious Scotch College for more than a decade, was arrested after a random baggage check at Melbourne Airport last December.

He claimed he was being set up by children he had been sponsoring.
Judge Wendy Wilmoth said Grant had used his time and location overseas to prey upon children and exploited them not only as children but children living in poverty.
There was a marked power imbalance between the young teenage girls – and some who appeared younger – and the 59-year-old.
Grant still has ongoing support from his wife, who wrote a character reference for him.
He pleaded guilty to 15 charges over the offending, between May and December last year.
Judge Wilmoth said the depraved offending involved 12 different child victims.
‘You paid these children and you engaged them in sexual conversation often making comments of an offensive nature and asking them sexually inappropriate questions,’ she said.

Grant used multiple social media accounts in his own name.
He sent messages to a 15-year-old girl and asked her for photos of girls 14 and younger.
Grant had intimate and sexual conversations with a 14-year-old girl in the Philippines over Whatsapp, offering $62 for images of herself and her friend.
He later paid $48 for 17 images and four videos of girls aged between 12 and 14 but complained to the sender that the girls were 19 and ‘not young enough’.
He said it was ‘not value for money’ and asked for more images.
Judge Wilmoth said a psychologist had found Grant did not have pedophilic tendencies.
They said Grant reported that he highly regrets his ‘lapse in judgment’.
Grant was sentenced to five years in prison and ordered to serve three years before he’s eligible for parole.
He will be registered as a sex offender for life.
