States have rushed to extended their border closures with New South Wales after a huge increase in coronavirus cases.
New South Wales reported 18 new local cases of coronavirus on Wednesday, including a new mystery cluster in Croydon in Sydney’s inner-west.
Both the ACT and Victoria are expected to extend their restrictions against NSW after the latest announcement.

The ACT’s Chief Minister Andrew Barr confirmed restrictions and quarantine requirements would be prolonged for another week.
He said the reason behind the extension was ‘today’s news from NSW’.
‘The continuance of new cases in New South Wales and particularly now spreading into the Greater Sydney and Wollongong region serves as a timely reminder that we need to maintain our vigilance in response to COVID-19,’ Mr Barr explained.
‘The risk is more elevated now than it has been for some time.
‘So with that in mind, the chief health officer has determined to continue our current travel restrictions, our quarantine requirements and our key messaging.
‘Residents, the ACT should not be travelling to Wollongong, Greater Sydney, the Blue Mountains, Nepean or the Central Coast.’

The Victorian Minister for Police and Emergency Services, Lisa Neville, has also claimed Victoria is ‘a long way’ from opening the border with NSW.
Nine of the new Sydney cases were linked to the Avalon cluster, while three adults and three children from the same extended family made up the mystery cluster.
Two further mystery cases were members of the same household from the Wollongong area and another unlinked case is from northern Sydney.
More to come
